What it takes to be successful

In my near 20 years of helping and supporting people and 15 years in education, the is a simple difference between those who achieve easily and those who have to work for the same success.

Everyone regardless of baseline intellectual, background or ability have the possibility of success, but the biggest difference between those who ultimately succeed and those who fail comes down to self-belief and this is what private school in the UK instil in their charge.

In the current Boris Johnsons Cabinet, 63% of ministers are privately educated, whereas it was 30% under may, 50% Under Cameron. This is a lot lower than Under Thatcher (91%) and Major(71%).

Does this means the likes of Jacob Rees Mogg or Matt Hancock are better and deserve success more than Dee Kelly from the hit channel 4 show "Benefits Street"? Of course, they don't and intellectual, Dee probably has more intellectual gifts that Merssess Rees Mogg and Hancock.

The main difference between people like Hancock and hard-working people from lower-income streams is belief. Right from an early age Hancock and Rees Mogg would have drilled into them how brilliant they are going to be and what the world owes their brilliant, James O'Brien the LBC presenter and broadcaster call it tugging the furlock, it's an inane class system that because Hancock and Rees Mogg come from a background of privilege they are automatically our superiors and deserve our defences.

In truth, nothing is special about Rees Mogg, Hancock or anyone who is a product of Eton or similar fee-paying school other than their belief that they are better than the rest of us. This arrogance allows them to have this air of superiority, but the key is that if they believe it the rest of us make it true.

The most important driver for success is confidence and the ability to overcome barriers. At some point in your life, you might find your self in a position of been unemployed or redundant. These are big changes and can be hard times, but its a huge oppunitity to change direction and rather doing what you had been doing you could be doing what you want to do.

To be your own person and to follow your dreams require a little skill, a little knowledge and a lot of confidence and self-belief.  You know you're amazing now you just need to show and tell the world.
